研究内容

20世紀前半の近代日本仏教(特に浄土真宗)とアメリカ社会、欧米文化との交渉を学際的に研究しています。他にも仏教を中心とした国際日本学(特に近代日本文学と仏教の関係)、近代日本仏教(特に浄土真宗)とエスニックスタディーズ、ジェンダースタディーズ、環境人文学の研究をしています。

ゼミ紹介

イギリスとアメリカに関する一般的な知識を習得する一方で、興味をもったことを、発表、質疑応答、ディスカッションなどを通して深く掘り下げていきます。英米文化を国単位で理解するだけでなく、日本を含めた他国との相関関係と文化形態の比較を通して視野を広げて欲しいと思っています。

経歴・活動歴

1991年ハワイパシフィック大学卒業。
1999年大谷大学大学院(文学研究科仏教学)修士課程修了。
2007年カリフォルニア大学アーバイン校博士号 (Ph.D.) 取得
アラスカ大学アンカレッジ校准教授、モンタナ大学カラシマツカサ日本語日本文化寄附講座准教授・教授を経て、大谷大学に着任。
