東方仏教徒協会は、仏教本来の意義を欧米に伝えることを主な目的として、鈴木大拙、佐々木月樵、赤沼智善らによって設立されました。本協会では、設立当初より英文雑誌『The Eastern Buddhist』の出版を行っています。また近年では公開セミナーや公開講演会の開催を通じて、仏教研究の成果の公開を行っています。
この度の公開講演会では、Graham Priest氏を講師にお招きし、「What is Japanese Medieval Buddhism? New perspectives from Tantric ritual material」というテーマにてご講演いただきます。みなさまのご参加をお待ちしております。

概要
This talk has two quite distinct parts. In Mahāyāna Buddhist texts it is standard to advocate the view that ultimate reality is ineffable. Of course, the texts talk about it in doing so. The contradiction is patent. Some philosophers try to resolve the contradiction, but others appear to have no problem with it. But could accepting the contradiction really be coherent? In the first part of the talk, we will look briefly at some of the relevant texts. In the second, I show how effable ineffability can be formulated in a second-order paraconsistent logic, showing that one can make precise logical sense of the view.
