Graduate School

Major in Sociology(Master's and Doctoral Courses)

The sociology course explores theoretical and methodological issues concerning our contemporary world through critical examination of specific behavior patterns and social relations of people: the structure of society, the rules and regulations of society, social institutions, and social groups.

The M.A. program offers two interrelated fields of concentration: sociology of modern and post-modern society and cultural anthropology. The M.A. students, choosing one of these fields, learn sociological/anthropological theories and the associated empirical methods and research skills. The students investigate various sociological and cultural issues and submit a thesis to complete the M.A. course. The Ph.D. program respects each student as an independent researcher and offers supervision to meet particular interests of each student. The Ph.D. students are encouraged to further develop their theoretical understanding with their research skills and to contribute their knowledge to respond to various needs in our society.
