Faculty of International Studies

Department of Intercultural Studies

This department takes a "glocal" perspective (which sees the local communities as interconnected with the issues of global society) and attempts to explore the ways that individual human lives can be made more rich and fulfilling through deepening understanding of the richness of cultural differences using different cultures to serve as a mirror to reevaluate the cultural traditions that one has inherited. The program aims to develop students' skills in international communication and their capacity to think flexibly from a broad perspective through studies that incorporate multiple viewpoints to understand Anglo-American, European, and East Asian cultures and societies. These viewpoints not only aim to see Asia and the West through the lens of Japan, but also aims to better understand Japan through the lens provided by Asia and the West.
