In the five departments of the Faculty of Letters, students study the words and thoughts of the people of the past in order to discover hints that would enable them to live fully and creatively in the present and in the future. During the first year, students acquire the ability to think critically and to discover answers to the pressing issues of the world. During the remaining years, they deepen their understanding of their respective fields of study, making full use of the outstanding resources available at Otani University. Through such process, they simultaneously, foster their capacity to listen with empathy to others and to express their thoughts through words, both of which are skills of crucial importance in the modern world.
