Kyoto Graduate Union of Religious Studies(K-GURS)
The Kyoto Graduate Union of Religious Studies (K-GURS) was founded in July of 2005 by the graduate schools of the various religious universities in and around Kyoto for the purpose of both deepening the academic exchange between these institutions and cultivating future scholars of religious studies, religious leaders and other religious professionals through the development of an educational program in which the distinguishing characteristics of each religion and denomination are highlighted. Based on an agreement between the participating universities, a program for the mutual recognition of credits was established in 2006.
For a student at a Buddhist university to be able to study the Jewish, Christian or Muslim faiths close at hand is truly an invaluable experience. In the same sense, this agreement provides an incentive for students who major in the study of these faith traditions to engage in the study of Japan's traditional religions.
